LSAT Diaries: How I Increased My LSAT Score by 22 Points

When it comes to the law school journey, everyone has their own story, but there’s one big challenge most of us have to tackle: the LSAT. In this new series, our Blueprint LSAT alumni share how they crushed the LSAT and made their law school dreams come true!

Katie, a former Blueprint LSAT student, wanted an LSAT prep course that offered her the flexibility she needed as a non-traditional applicant. She not only found it but also crushed her LSAT with a 22-point score increase from her diagnostic test!

Law School Was Always the Plan

I have always been interested in law as a career. I was a very typical prelaw student: political science major with summer internships on campaigns and Capitol Hill. My interests have shifted slightly but I think I always knew I would apply to law school one day.

After three years of work experience, I knew I wanted to go to law school, and that I wanted to take an LSAT prep course.

Flexibility Was a Must for My LSAT Journey

When I was first looking into prep courses I thought I would want to do one in-person, but I quickly realized that an online program afforded a flexibility that the others did not. I chose Blueprint because of its flexibility.

I knew that I would have to miss several classes due to an international trip in a different time zone, and in any other program that would have posed a problem. With Blueprint I was easily able to watch the recordings the next day and complete the homework at a pace that worked with my travel plans.

I loved having a study plan set from day one to keep me accountable, but the best part of the program is the ability to tailor it to your specific needs. It enables you to not only really target pain points but also create the study schedule that fits your life and study habits best.

[Blueprint LSAT instructors] Mary and Christine played off of each other very well. Both were extremely knowledgeable about the subject matter and had great tips about what helped them the most. It was great to have two instructors because they offered different perspectives on how to approach different question types.

Achieving A 22-Point LSAT Score Increase

Blueprint enabled me to go from a 152 cold diagnostic to a 174 two months later on test day. I didn’t supplement with any other materials so I can confidently say it was all due to the Blueprint program.

I recommend Blueprint because of the interface and flexibility of the program. The portal itself is extremely easy to navigate, the lessons do a good job keeping you interested, [and] I believe the Blueprint study plan is unmatched.

My LSAT score opened many opportunities for me. It wasn’t only that I received acceptances at top schools, but I believe my LSAT score was a major contributing factor when it came to the merit aid that I received. I was offered at least some scholarship money at all the schools I got into.

Starting My Legal Career Strong

I’m very proud of the work that I put into my LSAT score. I think my cycle would have gone differently if I didn’t have the score that I did. It’s given me the opportunity to pursue the career I want without taking on debt.

Seeing the shortcomings of our judicial system inspired me to pursue law school and work to address some of these problems in my career. I look forward to a career that is public interest focused and intellectually stimulating.
