Identify the flaw in the argument: “Latoya is an expert in the field of microbiology. So, her views on astronomy are probably accurate.”
Answer
This is a perception versus reality flaw. Expert opinion is a great resource for making an argument. However, when an expert speaks about subjects that are not necessarily within their area of expertise, their opinions are not as useful. Thus, using the opinion of an expert in one area to support a conclusion about another subject is not good reasoning.
