Halloween Horror: LSAC Not Releasing LSAT Scores Today
- Nov 01, 2012
Hurricane Sandy might be gone, but its effects are certainly still being felt. We in New York City are still learning how to live without the subway and reliable internet and microwave ovens, which isn’t really living at all. But it’s not just the east coast that’s getting screwed by mother nature.
It’s even affected the LSAT.
LSAC’s Newtown, Pennsylvania, headquarters were apparently squarely in the path of Sandy, putting the Council out of work since Monday. LSAC says it plans to open back up tomorrow.
What does this mean for you? Well, it means you’re going to have to wait even longer for your October LSAT score. According to LSAC’s website, they’re currently on generator power, and October LSAT scores won’t be released until tomorrow afternoon (but could take up to Friday, according to LSAC’s phone system).
There have been reports that the icons on students’ LSAC accounts have changed from green to grey (usually a reliable indication that LSAT scores are on their way), but in this case, it is likely just a hiccup due to the effects of Sandy.
This whole situation is actually pretty insane. LSAC publishes an LSAT score release date for every administration, but LSAT scores are almost always released before this date. To not release them early, but actually late, shows just how screwed over by this storm LSAC must have been.
Luckily, however, this shouldn’t affect you too much. If you’re planning on applying right away, a few days’ delay shouldn’t make a difference for your law school application prospects. Some of you may have been considering retaking in December depending on how October went, and you can still do that. LSAC is waiving the late registration fee. You have to pay the full amount now, but they’ll refund the difference once they get all their ducks in a row. So while this delay might be frustrating, it shouldn’t actually affect anything too much (except maybe your sanity).
Assuming all goes according to plan at LSAC HQ, October LSAT scores should be out tomorrow. Stay tuned, as we’ll be updating when LSAT scores come out with information about the test and the curve. Stay safe, and for all of you with internet, count your blessings.
