What’s the one accessory that most people can’t live without? If you said your cell phone, you’re correct! Cell phones have become an integral part of our lives. Without them, how would we know where to go, what to watch, or what to say?
Need some groceries but do not feel like getting out of your car? There’s an app for that! Want to learn a new language? There’s an app for that! Need to get out of an awkward phone conversation? There’s an app for that, too! (No seriously…the app will play odd noises to get you out of a phone call 😮)
And yes, whether you’re a nursing student looking for extra help or an RN looking for clinical resources, there’s an app for that too! This blog post is going to break down some of my favorite apps that supported me along my RN journey. Let’s start with the best apps for nursing students…in my opinion!
My Favorite Apps for Nursing Students
Skills Hub
This app offers 100+ checklists, step-by-step instructions, and videos of nursing skills you need to know. So even when you can’t be in the nursing lab, you can review your skills!
Davis Drug Guide
This app saved me in nursing school! Davis Drug Guide includes information about 5000+ medications. Not only did I use this app while I studied for exams, but I also used it during clinicals (just make sure you check with your clinical instructor before pulling out your phone!).
Notability
As I am sure you are very aware, nursing school involves a LOT of note taking! Your classic pen and paper is not for everyone.
That’s where the app Notability can help! This app not only allows you to take digital notes, but it also uses AI technology to create note summaries and personalized quizzes. With Notability, losing your notes becomes a thing of the past!

My Favorite Apps for Nurses
Nursegrid
I used this app every day while I worked in the hospital! A nurse’s schedule can vary week to week, so this app helps keep it straight.
You can insert your work schedule, including the hours and type of shift. You even can share with friends and coworkers to compare schedules!
Nursing Central
This app combines five of the best-selling nursing apps to create a one-stop shop for nurses. It allows you to research detailed information on conditions, medications, and procedures you may encounter during your shift.
With almost 10,000 five-star reviews, nurses everywhere love using it during every shift!
VectorCare Trust
Tired of tracking your license and certifications for work? This app allows you to upload and store all your work documents and credentials. You can also create alerts when your credentials are about to expire. In other words, you don’t have to worry about credentials expiring again!
Calm
Being an RN is stressful, right? There’s an app for that! This app is geared towards helping you sleep better, relieve stress, lower anxiety, and refocus your attention. So even with your busy work schedule, you can invest in your mental health!
Final Thoughts
With so many apps available, sometimes it’s hard to know where to start! Hopefully this blog post helps you to narrow down the best apps for nursing students and RNs to support you throughout your journey. No matter if you’re just starting nursing school or have been a nurse for 10+ years…there’s an app for that!
