The liver functions to detoxify many of the drugs humans take. If a drug byproduct is created in the liver and then released into the blood stream, which chamber of the heart will it arrive in first?
A) left ventricle
B) left atrium
C) right ventricle
D) right atrium
Explanation
The vena cava collects blood from all of the veins in the body, including the hepatic vein which drains blood from the liver. The vena cava then deposits that blood into the right atrium. Thus, choice (D) is the correct answer.
