If you’re an aspiring law student, you’ve probably encountered the four letters that dominate the conversation around law school admissions—LSAT. But what if you’re living outside the United States or Canada? Can you take the LSAT outside of North America? In this blog, we’re breaking down everything you need to know about the international LSAT, including what it entails, where to take it, and strategies to ace it from abroad.
What is the LSAT?
Think of the LSAT (Law School Admission Test) as your ticket into law school. This standardized test evaluates the key skills that every future lawyer needs to master, including critical thinking, reading comprehension, and logical reasoning. It’s not about memorizing facts or laws. Rather, it’s about testing how your mind works when dissecting problems and arguments.
Scoring well on the LSAT can significantly elevate your law school application and put you on the path to a significant law school scholarship, especially if you’re aiming for the top law schools. But for international students, the process of taking the LSAT might look a little different.

Where Can You Take the LSAT Internationally?
Good news—no matter where you are, the LSAT likely has you covered. There are testing centers scattered in major cities all over the world. This includes:
- Europe, Africa, and the Middle East
- Australia and New Zealand
- Asia and South Pacific Islands
- South America, Central America, Mexico, and Caribbean (Excluding Puerto Rico & U.S. Virgin Islands)
Most test takers will be able to take the international LSAT remotely at home or in person at a testing center. However, it’s important to note that depending on the country, there aren’t as many testing centers as in the U.S. Additionally, there are fewer international LSAT dates, which could affect your law school application timeline. In 2025, the international LSAT will be administered April 11, 2025 and June 6, 2025.
Studying Abroad
American students studying abroad often face questions about how and when to take the LSAT, especially if they need to sit for the exam in a specific month. If you’re overseas during an LSAT test date, you’ll need to register for the international LSAT in your current country of residence. While you might normally take the LSAT in the U.S., remote testing for the U.S. LSAT is not an option if you’re abroad. If you don’t want to take the international LSAT, you’ll need to wait to take the LSAT when you get back. Or you could hop on a plane and fly back for test day—whatever works for you!

Is the International LSAT the Same as the U.S. LSAT?
Good news! The LSAT content is the same no matter where or how you take it. Still, the actual exam and LSAT questions seen on test day may not be the same as what U.S. test takers see.
Tips for Taking the LSAT Internationally
Want to conquer the LSAT abroad? Here are tips and tricks that can make a difference in your preparation and performance.
1. Simulate Test Conditions
If you’re testing in person, remember that your test center may come with distractions, whether it’s noise, lighting issues, or even temperature differences. Try taking a few practice tests in a similar environment to condition yourself. Are you testing from home via the remote LSAT? Block out distractions and recreate the test environment as closely as possible.
2. Register Early
We mentioned earlier that international test centers might have limited seats and locations. Some test takers have to travel to neighboring countries to take their test. Keep an eye on registration dates so that you can ensure you get a seat at a test center closest to you.
3. Lean on a Support Network
You’re not alone in this. Find other international LSAT takers online and share insights, tips, and motivation. Sometimes, just knowing others are in the same boat can help keep you focused.
4. Prioritize Practice, Practice, Practice
Full-length, timed practice exams are non-negotiable no matter where you’re testing. Consistent practice under test conditions will give you the confidence and endurance you need to power through the LSAT like a pro.
