Down the Home Stretch: One Month Until the October LSAT

Today is September 6. The LSAT is on October 6. We are officially one month away from the biggest test of your life. This sounds both scary and exciting. Exciting because you’re only a month away from having all of this behind you! Scary because, well, obviously. So where exactly should you be at this point?

First of all, it’s normal and to be expected that your LSAT score isn’t quite where you want it to be yet. You have a whole month of LSAT study in front of you, which is a lot of time to improve. This time will primarily be review, as well.

By this point, you should be done or nearly done learning how to do everything on the LSAT, and should be nearing the review phase. People often find that they improve by leaps and bounds once they’re done learning new information and they start practicing their new techniques. Until now you were gathering together all the pieces of the puzzles, and now you just have to put them together. So if you work hard, you can see big, big improvement.

However, this really has to be review. If you haven’t started studying at all yet, it’s probably too late for the October LSAT. One month isn’t enough time to both learn all the techniques and then practice implementing them. So if at this point you haven’t even started your study, then you might want to push your LSAT test date to December.

But for those of you who are on a roll, just make sure you keep up the work. Now that we’re a month away, you’re going to want to take more LSAT practice tests. Make sure you take them in an LSAT testing-like environment, and make sure you review them afterwards. If you find that you’re missing a particular type of question a lot, go back and redo some of those problems. And while you do want to log plenty of LSAT practice hours, make sure you take breaks so that you don’t burn yourself out.

So stay strong, and keep studying! We’re in the final stretch, and the more work you put in now, the happier you’ll be when your October LSAT score is finally emailed to you.
