- PCAT Question of the Day
According to Charles’s Law, what happens to a gas as the temperature is decreased?
A. Volume decreases
B. Pressure decreases
C. Volume increases
D. Number of moles of gas increases
Click for Explanation
Charles’s Law states:
V1 / T1 = V2 / T2
It represents the direct relationship between volume and temperature for an ideal gas. Thus, as T decreases, so does V, making (A) the right answer.
B: This would by true by Gay-Lussac’s Law: P1/T1 = P2/T2
C: The relationship between T and V is direct, not inverse.
D: The number of moles of gas figures into Avogadro’s Law: V1/n1 = V2/n2
